The metro New York area received between 25” and 30” of snow recently and the world didn’t end! As a native Mainer, the hysteria that grips this area with the reports of an impending storm always makes me chuckle. The snow fell and amazingly the sun came up the next day. While most people grabbed a shovel and dug out, the news reporters were falling over each other with their rulers exclaiming the various depths around the tri-state area. However, now that ten days have passed, the bulk of the snow has vanished and the area is back to its normal routines. While a snowstorm is big news here, it is just part of the daily routine of winter in Eagles Mere! Snow happens and everyone just carries on. During the winter, work has continued on the construction of a business office on the second floor of the Clubhouse. Everything is proceeding as planned and it appears the move of the office by June 1 is on schedule. Many thanks to Bill Hutchinson for taking control of the project and keeping everything moving forward. By moving the business office to the Clubhouse, the staff will have a greater opportunity to develop as a cohesive team. Communication will improve, efficiency will go up and as a result the quality of service will also improve.

We are also looking forward to the delivery of a number of new carts for the upcoming season. We are moving to a staggered replacement schedule for the cart fleet so that we are able to maintain a high level of service without being faced with the need to replace the entire fleet at one time. Another improvement that you will notice upon your return in the spring will be an awning over the front entrance door. While the new awning will be an aesthetic addition, it primarily serves to extend the life of the doors into the Club. Because the doors are totally exposed to the weather, we have had a significant amount of water damage to the doors. The new awning will help to reduce that damage. As always, the Membership Committee continues to work diligently to increase the number of members. There will be more on their new initiatives in the future, but they always welcome any suggestions or assistance members can provide. A few more weeks and all the snow will be gone and thoughts of getting back to the mountain will return. I’m sure we are all looking forward to those days.
